There are three methods to claim benefits:

  • A computer that is connected to the internet
  • A touch-tone phone
  • The person is reporting to the Career Center

These automated platforms are accessible 24/7 all week long and are also used to monitor the status of payments.

Claiming Online

  1. Make a claim for unemployment through the GDOL (Georgia Department of Labor) website.
  2. Choose the option to claim Weekly Unemployment Benefits on the department’s homepage or the landing page.
  3. On the Certification Access page, choose the week that you wish to be able to verify, and then enter the Social Security number and 4-digit PIN

Claiming By Phone

A touch-tone telephone and a four-digit PIN are required to be able to claim benefits via phone.

Due to the high quantity of phone calls on Tuesday, Monday, or days following holidays it is possible to experience an extended wait for a call from an agent. To avoid this issue it is recommended to contact them on Wednesday and Thursday, as they are the most occupied days.

Information You Need

If you are filing a claim, you must have:

Anyone: A copy of your valid government-issued photo identification and an Employer Separation notice, in the event that you were issued one.

Previous Military Personnel at least one: the most recent DD-214 member 4 “orders to report”, “orders of release”, military earnings and leave statements or the W-2 form(s) that you have received from the most recent service in your military.

Prior Federal employees: Standard Form 50, Standard Form 8, W-2 form, or pay Stubs (if you were employed by the federal government at any point in the past year).

Union members Card for union members (if you belong to unions that assist in finding work).

Individuals affected by disaster An original copy of your most recent completed income tax return, or your the estimated quarterly payments to tax on income record(s) If you’re applying for disaster Unemployment Aid (DUA) or if you’re self-employed or a farm.
